MUSCAT : Laila bint Ali Al Batashi, Director of Ports and Maritime Docks Department at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said vessel calls at Omani seaports and marine terminals outside port boundaries exceeded 11,000 between January and the end of August 2026, compared with 8,793 during the same period in 2025.
Container throughput rose to more than 4 million TEUs, up from 3,368,465 in the corresponding period last year, reflecting increased trade activity and expanding port operations.
Cargo throughput recorded a 62.3 percent increase to approximately 146 million tonnes by the end of August 2026, compared with around 90.5 million tonnes a year earlier.
Vehicle handling registered the highest growth among the reported operational indicators, surging by 182.6 percent to 188,368 vehicles, compared with 66,661 during the same period in 2025.
Al Batashi said the figures reflected growing activity across Oman’s maritime sector, with increases in vessel calls, container volumes, cargo handling and vehicle movements.
She noted that the growth further strengthens the role of Omani seaports in supporting the country’s transport and logistics sector, facilitating trade and improving connectivity with regional and international markets.
