MUSCAT: Class 12 students in Oman and other Gulf Cooperation Council countries whose CBSE board examinations were cancelled earlier this year will have the option to sit special exams from October 23 to 28, the Indian education board has announced.

The examinations allow students dissatisfied with marks awarded under CBSE’s special assessment scheme to take the affected papers in person. The marks obtained in these exams will be final and replace those awarded through the assessment scheme, the board said.

CBSE introduced the scheme in March after regional conflict forced the cancellation of Class 12 examinations in 40 subjects, including 20 academic subjects, across Oman, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Iran.

Results for regular candidates in the affected countries were declared on May 13, alongside those for students in India and elsewhere.

The board released the special examination timetable in an October 8 circular signed by Controller of Examinations Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj. Admit cards became available for download on October 12 through the login credentials candidates used to apply.

Students were asked in September to register their chosen subjects through the board’s List of Candidates process. CBSE said it had arranged one examination centre in each country based on the registrations.

The examinations begin on Friday, October 23, with Political Science, Economics, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. Psychology, Business Studies and Physical Activity Trainer follow on October 24.

After a break on Sunday, examinations resume on October 26 with Biology, Information Technology, Marketing, Multimedia and Artificial Intelligence.

Home Science, Informatics Practices and Computer Science are scheduled for October 27. The final paper, English Core, will be held on October 28.

Most papers are scheduled from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Physical Activity Trainer and Artificial Intelligence will run for two hours, ending at 12.30 p.m.
