MUSCAT: The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Bangkok issued the advisory, warning that prohibited items discovered during inspections, including flammable materials and power banks, may be confiscated without the right of return.
Under the new procedures, baggage will first undergo security screening. If hazardous or prohibited items are detected, or the contents cannot be clearly identified, authorities may open the bag for further inspection to ensure it poses no security risk.
The inspection process will be recorded by CCTV cameras, and an official notification will be placed inside any bag that has been opened, according to the advisory.
Travellers have been urged to use internationally certified Transportation Security Administration (TSA) locks, which can facilitate authorised baggage inspections, and to avoid placing valuables or important documents in checked luggage.
The procedures also allow authorities to break unauthorised locks when necessary to complete an inspection. Passengers may request a review if belongings are missing or they have concerns about how the inspection was conducted.
The new measures are being introduced in accordance with international civil aviation security standards, with inspections triggered by security concerns rather than conducted randomly, the advisory stated.
