MILAN : The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman and the Italian Ministry of Culture today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the fields of heritage and museums. The signing ceremony took place during the visit of Oman’s Heritage and Tourism Minister, Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, to the Italian Republic.
The MoU was signed by Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism, Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, and Italy’s Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli.
The MoU aims to foster the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the management, preservation and restoration of cultural heritage, the development of museums and the organization of exhibitions. The MoU also seeks to build national capacities in the fields of archaeology, heritage conservation and the establishment and restoration of museums, in addition to facilitating the exchange of expertise.

The two ministers discussed the implementation of an executive programme on outlining cooperation initiatives and explored opportunities to leverage the Italian expertise, notably for developing Oman Maritime Museum.
The discussions covered ways to improve the management of heritage sites and the implementation of training and residency programmes for Omani personnel operating in the field of joint archaeological research in managing terrestrial and underwater sites.
