MUSCAT : With Work-from-Home and online classes becoming the new norm in Oman, the country is witnessing shortage of laptops.
According to various laptop market dealers based in city, there has been a spike in the purchase of laptops in the market during the last 3-4 months and the production has not been able to keep pace with the rising demand.
However, Sulayem bin Ali Al Hikmani, Chairman of Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) said that the shortage is due to surge in global demands. “We have seen a huge demand for computers during pandemic especially for laptops due to global demand and that is why the local market is facing shortages,” Al Hikmani said.

According to the CPA chief, new batches of laptops will be available in the market next month. Ever since the new school year started shops across the country are witnessing huge demand for laptops. “We are seeing a demand for laptops like never before but we are not able to meet the demand because of the shortage. We are expecting new batch of laptops soon,” said Nabeel Hussain who runs a computer shop in Ruwi High Street.
