MUSCAT: Traffic accidents reported to insurance companies in Oman increased sharply in the second quarter of 2026, with both the number of incidents and the value of claims rising from a year earlier, according to unaudited data from the Financial Services Authority (FSA).
Around 21,700 accidents were recorded during the April-June period, compared with approximately 18,900 in the corresponding quarter of 2025, an increase of 14.8 percent.
Minor accidents accounted for the majority, with 15,850 cases, or about 73 percent of the total. Another 5,893 accidents were classified as serious, representing around 27 percent.

The number of insurance claims rose at a slower pace, increasing 7.2 percent to approximately 22,000.
Claims involving minor accidents climbed 12.5 percent to around 15,800 from 14,000 a year earlier.
Serious accident claims involving material damage, however, fell 11.9 percent to about 2,900 from 3,300 in the second quarter of 2025.
Claims related to injuries and medical treatment rose about 4 percent to 3,200, while fatality-related claims declined to 80 from 83.
The financial impact of accidents increased more sharply. Total compensation, including reported claims that remained outstanding, reached approximately RO25.1 million, up 19 percent year-on-year.
Minor accidents accounted for RO12.48 million, nearly half of the total, while serious accidents involving material damage accounted for RO5.3 million.
Another RO6.2 million was linked to injuries and medical expenses, while approximately RO1 million was associated with fatality claims.
