MUSCAT : The Royal Navy of Oman has evacuated 27 crew members from the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao after it was attacked off the coast of Musandam Governorate, Oman’s Maritime Security Centre said on Wednesday.
The evacuation was carried out in coordination with the relevant authorities, with the rescued crew members provided with necessary medical care, the centre said in a statement.
The Antigua and Barbuda-flagged Cape Dao was targeted about 2.5 nautical miles off Musandam, causing a fire to break out in the vessel’s engine room, according to the centre.

One crew member died in the incident, it said.
The latest statement follows confirmation from the Indian Embassy in Muscat that the deceased was an Indian national. The embassy said earlier that 19 Indian nationals were among the crew and that it was coordinating with Omani authorities over their safety.
The embassy also said it was in contact with the family of the deceased and coordinating with the RPSL.
