MUSCAT: Oman’s Social Protection Fund (SPF) said on Monday that its records showed no application had been submitted for either a disability benefit or an incapacity pension in the case of a citizen whose health condition was recently circulated on social media.
In a statement issued on September 21, the fund said it was following the case after details of the citizen’s medical condition were shared online and that its specialists were in direct contact with the individual.
The SPF said the contact was aimed at assessing the citizen’s health situation and coordinating with relevant parties to obtain the necessary information, medical reports and supporting documents.

It said its systems allow an eligible person, or someone acting on their behalf, to apply for the disability benefit. Employers can also submit applications for incapacity pensions.
However, a review of the SPF’s records showed that no application relating to either of the two benefits had been received in the citizen’s case as of the date of the statement.
The SPF said its officials were continuing to coordinate with the relevant authorities to complete the requirements and procedures needed to assess whether the citizen qualifies for the applicable benefit under Oman’s Social Protection Law.
The SPF said the case would be handled with accuracy and appropriate professional care, while wishing the citizen a speedy recovery.
