LUANDA : His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik said Oman and Angola aim to double bilateral trade in the coming years, as the two countries seek to deepen their economic partnership through agreements and investments worth more than $1.5 billion.

Speaking at the Presidential Palace in Luanda during his State Visit to Angola on Friday, His Majesty said the current level of trade did not reflect the depth of the economic partnership between the two countries.

“We look forward to achieving our shared vision and doubling the volume of trade exchange in the coming years,” His Majesty said in a speech delivered in the presence of Angolan President João Lourenço.

His Majesty said agreements and memoranda of understanding expected to be concluded during the visit had a combined value exceeding $1.5 billion, describing them as a strong foundation for creating sustainable opportunities for the peoples of both countries.

He urged stakeholders in the public and private sectors in Oman and Angola to continue exploring opportunities arising from the partnership and enable businesses to benefit from promising trade and investment prospects.

His Majesty identified oil, mining, food security, maritime and air transport among the sectors offering significant potential for cooperation, saying stronger partnerships in these areas could support economic diversification in both countries.

The two sides are also signing a technical cooperation programme agreement during the visit. His Majesty expressed hope that the programme and other initiatives would deliver tangible benefits for the Angolan people while strengthening ties between the two countries.

His Majesty said the visit reflected Oman’s commitment to further developing relations with Angola, which have recorded notable growth in economic, commercial and investment cooperation in recent years.

He said discussions held during Lourenço’s earlier visit to Oman had opened a new chapter in the strategic partnership between the two countries, with the latest visit aimed at continuing that dialogue and exploring further opportunities.

His Majesty also thanked Lourenço for Angola’s hospitality and said Oman looked forward to continued exchanges and constructive dialogue to strengthen friendship and cooperation.
