MUSCAT : The new service, introduced as part of the TRA’s Quality System, is designed to streamline the handling of coverage-related requests, improve planning and support data-driven decision-making.

The platform provides a standardised process for submitting requests and facilitates their electronic transfer between governorates and the TRA. It also allows submitted requests to be compared with previous and ongoing applications in the same or nearby areas, helping identify duplication or similar requests and determine whether existing or planned telecommunications projects cover the location.

Based on this assessment, requests can be classified and directed through the most appropriate processing route.

Governorates can submit applications electronically, specify the type and requirements of each request, identify its geographical location and monitor its progress and completion rate. The system also provides geographical information to help build a broader picture of telecommunications needs across the governorates.

Requests covered by the service include the establishment of new telecommunications stations, improving mobile and internet coverage, introducing 5G services, relocating or removing telecommunications stations, and extending fibre-optic networks.

The platform can also be used to report telecommunications infrastructure that has been damaged or vandalised, cases where the establishment of a telecommunications station is being prevented, and other requests related to telecommunications services.

The service incorporates artificial intelligence technologies to conduct an initial analysis when a request is submitted. It links applications with available technical and geographical data to assess telecommunications and coverage conditions at the specified location.

The system can also identify nearby towers and stations and determine the technologies available at those sites, helping the authority assess whether existing infrastructure can meet the requested need.
The service is currently available to Oman’s governorates, with plans to expand access in the future to government institutions, economic and logistics zones and other relevant entities.
