MUSCAT : Oman and Yemen have signed two joint cooperation agreements in Salalah for an electrical interconnection project linking the power grid in Dhofar Governorate with the electricity network in Yemen’s Al Mahrah Governorate.

The agreements form part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries and enhance coordination in the energy sector, while supporting the stability and availability of electricity supplies in beneficiary areas of Al Mahrah.

The first agreement was signed on behalf of Oman by Eng. Ali bin Issa Shamas, CEO of Nama Services Dhofar, and on behalf of Yemen by Othman Mohammed Awadh, Director General of the Public Electricity Corporation in Al Mahrah Governorate.

The second agreement was signed by Ahmed bin Salem Al Abri, CEO of Nama for Power and Water Purchase, and Eng. Mohsen Ali Balhaf, Director of the Yemeni Oil Company in Al Mahrah Governorate.

Under the project, electricity will be supplied from the Dhofar grid to several areas in Al Mahrah Governorate.

In the first phase of the electricity distribution network, the project will cover the cities of Hauf and Shahn, with estimated loads of 3 megawatts for Hauf and 5 megawatts for Shahn. Electricity will also be supplied to Al Ghaydah, with loads reaching up to 50 megawatts.

The project is aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supplies in the beneficiary areas and strengthening energy infrastructure in Al Mahrah.
