46 new investment opportunities open in Oman’s North Al Sharqiyah with investment deals crossing RO 74 million

North Al Sharqiyah Governorate has offered 46 investment opportunities across agricultural, livestock and fisheries sectors in 2026, with 22 contracts valued at around RO 74.3 million signed and currently completing final procedures.

Muscat: The agreements cover more than 431 acres, or over 1.81 million square metres, highlighting growing investor interest in productive sectors and value-added agricultural and livestock projects across the governorate.

North Al Sharqiyah has continued to expand its agricultural, livestock, fisheries and water sectors through investment projects, development programmes and improved services.

Agricultural production in the governorate reached around 277,257 tonnes in 2025, across approximately 17,225 acres of cultivated land. The governorate is also home to more than 1 million date palms, while honey production stood at around 249 tonnes.

It includes 2,244 greenhouses, 18 date processing and packaging units, and 64 nurseries and agricultural supply outlets. Between 2020 and 2025, around 366 model commercial farms were established across 503.4 acres.

Dr Abdul Aziz bin Ali Al Mashikhi, Director General of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in North Al Sharqiyah, said the agricultural sector recorded growth of 6 per cent in 2025, while value added from agricultural activities increased by 9 per cent to approximately RO 37.1 million.

Several major agricultural projects are also under development, including a model grape farming project in Ibra involving 10 specialised farms across 100 acres. The project is expected to produce up to 1,000 tonnes and generate an economic return exceeding RO 2 million.

Another project in Al Jabal Al Abyad in Dima Wa Al Taiyyin aims to cultivate 50 acres of local thyme, with production expected to reach 37.5 tonnes of dried thyme and generate around RO 212,000 by 2028.

In Bidiyah, a vegetable production project involving 166 greenhouses and open-field cultivation has reached 95 per cent completion. The RO 406,111 project covers 100 acres and has an annual production capacity of around 4,320 tonnes.

The governorate has also achieved self-sufficiency levels exceeding 100 per cent in several products, including 475 per cent in cucumbers, 256.2 per cent in dates, 218 per cent in table eggs and 136.7 per cent in honey.

The livestock sector includes around 435,000 animals and 31,562 Omani breeders, supported by 46 grazing areas, seven government veterinary clinics and 43 private veterinary clinics.

Seven livestock investment projects worth approximately RO 33 million are currently being implemented. Annual production includes around 255.6 million litres of milk, 126 million eggs and 5.45 million kilograms of white meat.

Preventive veterinary programmes have also been expanded, with around 818,876 vaccination doses administered to approximately 472,435 animals.

In the water sector, North Al Sharqiyah has two rainmaking stations, three storage dams, seven groundwater recharge dams, 426 active aflaj and more than 18,400 registered wells. Investments linked to Nama projects in the governorate amount to around RO 65 million.

The fisheries sector includes two private-sector investment opportunities, eight fish markets, two fish processing plants and 58 fish shops, with further plans to develop markets and attract new investment.

The governorate has also continued to promote local products through events including the Grape Festival, the Distillation Season and the “Sinaw Our Destination” Festival, alongside programmes supporting rural development, women and small and medium enterprises.

By the end of 2025, North Al Sharqiyah had recorded 529 usufruct contracts covering more than 11,000 acres, while 54 investment opportunities had been offered through the Tatweer platform.

Investment contracts signed in 2025 alone reached around RO 99.2 million, covering more than 3,029 acres and including projects in poultry, meat, vegetables, food processing and water networks.
