MUSCAT : A 35-year-old Indian expatriate died on Friday after collapsing while playing a cricket match at a ground in Al Hail, according to members of the local cricket community.
The deceased has been identified as Shabeer Basheer, a Kerala native who had been living and working in Oman for around 14 years.
Shabeer was playing for Jiffnain Challengers in a tennis-ball cricket match when he suffered a sudden medical emergency between 9am and 9.30am.

Fellow players immediately sought medical assistance and Shabeer was taken to a nearby hospital in Al Hail. Medical teams attempted emergency treatment, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but he could not be revived.
A member of the cricket community described Shabeer as a well-known player and captain of Jiffnain Challengers, expressing shock and grief over his sudden death.
Originally from Thuravoor in Kerala’s Alappuzha district, Shabeer was employed with Electroman LLC in Oman.
He is survived by his wife, who works at a private hospital, and their child. Both were living with him in Muscat.
