MUSCAT : Nasser bin Ahmed Al Sharji will step into the top job at Oman Air on September 1 with more than two decades of experience behind him, including senior roles at some of Oman’s key aviation and infrastructure organisations.

His appointment as Chief Executive Officer marks a return to the upper ranks of the aviation sector, where Al Sharji previously served as Acting CEO of Oman Airports and CEO of Transom, also known as Oman Ground Handling.

At Transom, Al Sharji was responsible for a business at the heart of airport operations, giving him direct exposure to the operational side of the aviation industry and the wider ecosystem that supports airlines and airports.

His experience, however, extends well beyond aviation.

Over a career spanning more than 25 years, Al Sharji has worked across operations, corporate transformation, logistics, energy, oil and gas and public services, building a profile centred on managing large organisations and delivering strategic change.

He has held senior leadership positions at Asyad Group, Oman’s integrated logistics group, as well as OQ, the country’s global integrated energy company, and Nama Water Services.

Across these roles, Al Sharji contributed to major strategic projects at the national level, gaining experience in sectors closely linked to Oman’s economic diversification and infrastructure development.

He also brings board-level experience, having served on boards and chaired committees across several sectors. Al Sharji holds a Master of Business Administration.

His background in both aviation operations and corporate transformation is expected to be particularly relevant as he takes over Oman Air during one of the most significant restructuring periods in the airline’s recent history.

His Excellency Said Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of Oman Air’s Board of Directors, highlighted Al Sharji’s aviation experience, practical expertise and track record in corporate transformation and strategy development.

For Al Sharji, the new role brings together several strands of his career, from airports and ground handling to logistics, infrastructure and corporate transformation, as he takes responsibility for steering Oman’s national carrier through its next phase.
