MUSCAT: The Court of First Instance in the Wilayat of Seeb convicted the defendant, identified by the Public Prosecution as Judy Jihad Jadou, an Arab national, of using the internet and information technology to produce and publish content that violated public morals.
According to the Public Prosecution, the court sentenced the defendant to one year in prison and ordered the confiscation of the device used in committing the offence.
The judgment also ordered the closure of the social media accounts used in the offence and the defendant’s deportation from Oman following completion of the sentence.

The court further ordered the publication of the judgment.
The Public Prosecution said its investigation began after the defendant appeared in a live broadcast on social media that contained content and behaviour considered contrary to public morals. Legal proceedings were subsequently initiated and the case was referred to the competent court.
The Public Prosecution said the case underscores the importance of responsible use of social media and warned against publishing or circulating material that violates public order or public morals.
It also reiterated its commitment to protecting the values and established morals of Omani society and raising legal awareness among citizens and residents over the consequences of misuse of social media platforms.
