MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources said on Thursday that it is coordinating with relevant authorities to follow developments related to the incident and assess any potential effects on the marine environment.
As a precautionary measure, the Food Safety and Quality Center is conducting investigations, inspections and sampling of fish products available in markets to verify their safety and compliance with approved health standards.
The ministry urged fishermen and seafarers to follow official instructions and immediately report any oil slicks, unusual odours, changes in water conditions or noticeable changes in marine life.
It also advised fishermen to avoid fishing in areas where such indicators are observed.
The ministry said the measures form part of its ongoing monitoring and precautionary efforts to protect the safety of fish products and consumer health, while urging the public to rely on official sources for information.
