MUSCAT: In a statement, Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that the Golan Heights are occupied Syrian territory and stressed its support for the sovereignty and territorial unity of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The ministry said Colombia’s decision runs counter to international law, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which rejects the imposition of Israeli laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

Oman called on all states to respect the Charter of the United Nations, international law and relevant resolutions of international legitimacy.

The Sultanate reiterated its firm position that the Golan Heights remain Syrian territory and affirmed its support for Syria’s sovereignty and unity over all its territory.
