MUSCAT: The CPA’s General Directorate of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah highlighted a range of practices that consumers should watch for when purchasing goods.
These include:
• Selling counterfeit or spoiled products and altering their expiry or production dates.
• Misrepresenting the type, authenticity, nature or composition of goods.
• Falsifying expiry dates or forging the country of origin.
• Promoting products in a way that does not reflect their true nature or characteristics.
• Manipulating product weights to provide consumers with less than the stated quantity.
• Using containers, utensils, packaging, wrappers, labels or printed materials that do not meet approved standards or that are defective or pose risks to health and safety.
The authority urged consumers to pay close attention to product information, packaging, weights and expiry dates when shopping and to report suspected violations through the appropriate consumer protection channels.
