MUSCAT: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has announced a judicial ruling against a commercial establishment engaged in the manufacture and installation of doors in the Wilayat of Barka, with the business and its owner fined and ordered to compensate a consumer over breaches of contract and defective workmanship.
According to the CPA, the case stemmed from an agreement under which the consumer contracted the establishment to manufacture and install three doors for his home at a cost of RO 1,550. However, the company failed to complete the work within the agreed timeframe, while technical defects and other issues emerged during the installation process.
The authority said the establishment also failed to rectify the defects despite prior agreement with the consumer, prompting legal action.
The competent court ruled against both the commercial establishment and its owner, imposing a combined fine of RO 600. The court also ordered the defendants to refund the consumer the full amount of RO 1,550 and bear the costs of the criminal proceedings.
