MUSCAT: The integrated security and traffic plan aims to enhance field readiness, improve traffic flow, provide police services, and maintain security and public safety throughout the popular tourism season.

Colonel Salem bin Mohammed Al Kaf, Assistant Commander of the Dhofar Governorate Police, said the ROP has strengthened its field presence by deploying patrols and security checkpoints across key locations and main roads to respond quickly to incidents and provide a safe environment for visitors.

He said the command continues to raise its operational readiness and performance levels to preserve security and public order during the Khareef season.

The ROP has established security points equipped with teams from public security, air ambulance, civil defence and ambulance services to enhance emergency response, reduce traffic accidents, and provide guidance and assistance to tourists and motorists travelling to Dhofar.

Lieutenant Colonel Suleiman bin Saeed Al-Hatali, Director of Operations at the Dhofar Governorate Police Command, said the security and traffic plan is based on three main areas: major roads, event locations, and tourist destinations including beaches and water springs.

He added that the operations centre operates around the clock to receive reports and complaints and respond efficiently to traffic accidents, emergency situations, and requests for assistance or guidance.

Lieutenant Colonel Khalifa bin Juma Al-Qwaiti, Assistant Commander of the Special Tasks Unit in Salalah, said the unit supports police stations and field teams at tourist sites through rapid intervention capabilities.

He said a motorcycle support force has also been deployed to improve access to rugged areas and respond quickly to emergencies. The force operates across beaches, plains and open areas to expand security coverage during the season.

The ROP is also using modern technologies and smart systems to improve traffic management and reduce congestion in Salalah and other busy areas.

Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed bin Saeed Ghawas, Assistant Director of Traffic at the Dhofar Governorate Police Command, said drivers can access alternative route information through a QR code available at the entrance of Wadi Harit Police Station, allowing motorists to avoid delays in cases of vehicle breakdowns or accidents.

He added that the ROP is cooperating with Dhofar Municipality to manage congestion at key locations by giving priority to heavily congested lanes at traffic signals.

The police warned against dangerous driving practices and serious violations, including vehicle drifting, driving on green spaces, overtaking from road shoulders, and passengers exiting vehicle windows or sunroofs while the vehicle is moving.

Lieutenant Colonel Alawi bin Hafeez Al-Haddad, Commander of the Coast Guard Police Unit in Dhofar Governorate, said securing beaches remains a key priority during the season, with personnel and specialised vehicles, including jet skis, deployed at crowded coastal areas.

He urged beachgoers to exercise caution due to rough sea conditions, strong waves and opposing currents, stressing the importance of awareness to prevent drowning incidents and falls from rocky areas.

The Mounted Police Station is also participating in security operations across tourist locations, particularly areas that are difficult for regular vehicles to access.

Lieutenant Ishaq bin Saeed Al-Hinai said mounted patrols are deployed at beaches and rugged plains based on the importance and requirements of each location. He added that many reports received from visitors involve missing children at event sites, urging families to closely monitor children and avoid leaving them unattended.

The Royal Oman Police called on motorists travelling long distances to Dhofar to avoid speeding, take adequate rest when feeling tired, and follow all traffic regulations and safety instructions.

The ROP also urged visitors and residents to avoid reckless driving behaviours and comply with police directions to ensure smooth traffic movement and a safe and enjoyable Dhofar Khareef season for all.
