MUSCAT : The achievement was secured through the university’s Shinas branch, which represented UTAS in the initiative by implementing standards focused on integrating health and well-being concepts into institutional policies and practices, while enhancing the quality of life across the university campus.

The qualification follows a series of institutional efforts by the Shinas branch, including the formation of an initiative team, conducting a self-assessment based on approved standards, identifying a key health challenge, developing a sustainable project to address it, and monitoring performance indicators.

During the academic year, the branch implemented various programmes aimed at promoting physical and mental health, including sports activities, health awareness campaigns, healthy nutrition initiatives, mental health support programmes, environmental activities, blood donation drives and community initiatives that strengthened partnerships with relevant organisations.

Dr. Muna Darwish Abdullah AlMamari, Deputy of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Electronic Systems and Student Services at the Shinas branch and the official overseeing the initiative, said the achievement reflects UTAS’ commitment to promoting a culture of health and well-being and adopting sustainable projects that improve university life.

She added that qualifying for the regional stage in line with World Health Organization standards demonstrates the success of the team’s institutional efforts and highlights the importance of investing in health and well-being as a foundation for academic and organisational excellence.

Dr AlMamari expressed hope that the university would achieve regional accreditation and represent the Sultanate of Oman at the regional level.

The university said the achievement supports its commitment to embedding health and well-being principles within its academic and administrative systems, in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 and the Sustainable Development Goals, while strengthening its role in creating a healthy and sustainable learning environment.
