Oman hosts international forum on marine forecasting, satellite applications

The activities of the ‘Forecasting Ports’ forum, organised by the Civil Aviation Authority and the Centre of Excellence for Satellite Applications, began today via videoconferencing.

MUSCAT – The three-day event involves the participation of specialists in meteorology and marine sciences, as well as weather and climate researchers from countries across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
The forum aims to enhance international cooperation and the exchange of expertise in marine forecasting and satellite applications. It also aims to review best operational practices in using satellite data to support marine forecasting, early warning, navigation safety, and climate services.
Additionally, the forum highlights the importance of building a professional network between forecasting centres and the Centres of Excellence affiliated with the World Meteorological Organisation. This contributes to capacity building, fostering knowledge sharing, and supporting regional cooperation in this field.
This forum comes as part of the Civil Aviation Authority’s efforts to consolidate the Sultanate of Oman’s position as a regional centre of excellence for satellite applications and meteorology, and to support nationals’ talent through the exchange of expertise and global best practices, thus contributing to the development of aviation and marine services and upgrading the quality of weather
