Oman participates in 48th session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Korea

The Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), being held in the city of Busan in the Republic of Korea from July 19 to 29.

SEOUL – The session is attended by representatives of parties to the 1972 Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
Oman’s delegation is led by Her Excellency Amna Salim Al Balushi, Permanent Delegate of the Sultanate of Oman to UNESCO.
During its current session, the UNESCO committee discussed files of nomination for new sites to be added to the World Heritage List and reports on the conservation of listed sites, in addition to policies and procedures related to the protection and management of World Heritage sites.
The session also deals with means of managing risks and disasters, handling the effects of climate change and activating the role of local communities tasked with protecting heritage.
Oman’s participation in the session stems from its keenness to follow up developments in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention and contribute to the discussion of issues related to the protection and management of World Heritage sites, in a bid to support national efforts aimed at preserving cultural and natural heritage in line with global standards
