MUSCAT – The Embassy of India in Oman said the e-OCI Card, launched on June 30, 2026, includes enhanced security features and serves as a digital alternative to the existing physical OCI card for immigration clearance and other associated services.
OCI cardholders can download the electronic card by logging into the official OCI portal or through the Indian Visa Su-Swagatam mobile application.
The embassy clarified that existing physical OCI booklets will remain valid and will continue to be accepted for immigration and related services.
Under the new system, OCI cardholders will receive a unique registration number with lifetime validity, regardless of subsequent changes to passport details. The system also removes the requirement to reissue OCI booklets after a new passport is issued following the holder’s attainment of 20 years of age.
However, OCI cardholders must update new passport details through the online OCI services portal and upload the required documents and latest photograph. Those obtaining a new passport after the age of 20 may also be required to provide biometric information during the update process or at the immigration point during their first entry or departure after updating details.
The embassy said updated passport information and other relevant OCI details will be reflected digitally in the e-OCI system, eliminating the need to carry old passports for verification purposes.
The e-OCI registration will be treated as valid proof of OCI status, equivalent to the physical OCI booklet.
OCI cardholders are entitled to benefits including a multiple-entry lifelong visa to India, exemption from registration with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) or Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) regardless of the duration of stay, and parity with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in several economic, financial and educational matters.
For applicants in Oman, the embassy said required documents include a completed application form, a valid passport copy, previous Indian passport details and surrender or renunciation certificates where applicable.
The OCI registration fee from April 1, 2026, is RO 104.200, while transfer of OCI universal visa or miscellaneous services costs RO 9.500.
