MUSCAT – The agreements were signed by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, with the Security and Safety Services Corporation and Al Rawda Trading and Contracting Company.
The first agreement, signed with the Security and Safety Services, focuses on implementing environmental inspection and monitoring activities across Oman’s governorates through specialised and qualified teams.
Under the agreement, inspection teams will conduct field visits, record environmental violations, prepare reports and update electronic systems in accordance with the procedures and regulations approved by the Environment Authority.
His Excellency Dr Al Amri described the agreement as a significant step in developing Oman’s environmental monitoring system, saying it would support inspection of facilities and individuals to identify violations of environmental laws and regulations, improve compliance and reduce harmful practices and pollutants.
He added that the agreement responds to calls to strengthen environmental enforcement mechanisms, noting that around 50 percent of the environmental control and inspection sector has been covered through the agreement signed today.
The implementation plan will include a digital framework, training and awareness programmes for personnel on environmental laws and regulations, as well as a media plan to highlight the foundation’s role in supporting environmental protection efforts.
The second agreement covers the first phase of the development project for Al Saleel Natural Park in the Wilayat of Al Kamil and Al Wafi, with an investment exceeding RO 2 million. The project is financed by OMIFCO and Oman LNG and was signed on behalf of Al Rawda Trading and Contracting Company by Abdullah bin Saeed Al Zadjali.
The development project aims to promote ecotourism, preserve biodiversity and enhance infrastructure and visitor facilities at the park, while maintaining its environmental and natural features.
His Excellency Dr Al Amri said the development of nature reserves forms part of the Environment Authority’s objectives to support ecotourism while ensuring that tourism activities do not affect ecological balance or biodiversity. He noted that tourism investment projects are usually located in areas with lower environmental sensitivity to protect ecosystems.
He explained that the Al Saleel Natural Park project includes the development of a visitor centre and a park management centre, which will serve as key facilities for receiving visitors, managing operations and supporting local communities by providing opportunities to promote local products.
The project will also contribute to creating a sustainable ecotourism route within the park.
His Excellency Dr Al Amri highlighted the importance of preserving Oman’s biodiversity, particularly during the Dhofar autumn season, when the governorate attracts visitors due to its unique plant, animal and bird species.
He called on visitors and tourists to follow environmental requirements set by the Environment Authority and Dhofar Municipality to help protect green spaces and maintain ecological balance.
The Environment Authority said the agreements reflect its commitment to expanding partnerships with public and private sector entities, improving environmental inspection capabilities and developing nature reserves while balancing conservation efforts with sustainable development goals.
