Beijing: The Ministry of Emergency Management said the National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters launched the response after meteorological authorities forecast intense rain across parts of northern and central Anhui, as well as central and southern Shandong, from Monday to Tuesday.
According to a statement carried by Xinhua News Agency, some areas in northern Anhui and southern Shandong could experience exceptionally heavy downpours. Hourly rainfall is expected to range between 30 and 60 millimetres, with some locations likely to receive more than 90 millimetres.
Authorities said the emergency headquarters and the ministry held a joint meeting with relevant agencies to assess the developing weather situation.

The ministry added that, under the influence of Typhoon Maysak, heavy rain is expected to continue across southern China and parts of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Rainfall is also forecast to become more frequent and intense across northern parts of the country.
