MUSCAT – The hospital urged parents and guardians to prioritise children’s safety during the summer vacation, warning that the increased use of scooters and motorcycles by children and adolescents significantly raises the risk of serious accidents and life-changing injuries.

In an awareness message, the Ministry of Health’s Directorate General of Khoula Hospital said road accidents involving two-wheelers can result in head injuries and internal bleeding, severe fractures to the spine and limbs, amputations, deep burns, permanent deformities and disabilities that may affect a child’s future.

The hospital stressed that preventing such injuries begins at home, calling on parents not to allow children to ride motorcycles or scooters on public roads and to ensure they wear helmets and appropriate protective gear whenever using such vehicles.

It also urged families to provide direct supervision during recreational activities, adhere to traffic safety rules, avoid speeding and discourage dangerous stunts.

“Vacation is a pleasure, and safety is a priority. Together, let us protect our children from injuries and accidents,” the hospital stated.
