MUSCAT – The large-scale operation will be carried out in cooperation with Iran, Oman, other coastal states in the region, the United States and the international maritime industry, according to IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez.
The IMO said the plan follows the restoration of maritime security arrangements and the securing of necessary safety guarantees to support safe navigation and evacuation operations.
Dominguez welcomed the agreement between Washington and Tehran, describing it as an important step towards ending attacks on civilian shipping and restoring stability in the region.
He also paid tribute to 14 seafarers who lost their lives during the conflict, saying their contribution to global trade would not be forgotten.
“We have secured the necessary safety guarantees and have thoroughly verified the conditions for safe navigation to support these operations. We remain fully committed to ensuring the safety of seafarers and the continuity of global trade,” Dominguez stated.
