MUSCAT – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Muscat on Monday evening for talks with Omani officials focused on the implementation of the recently signed Iran-U.S. memorandum of understanding and the future management of the Strait of Hormuz.

The two senior Iranian officials were received by Oman’s Foreign Minister, His Excellency Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, who described the discussions as constructive and centred on the section of the agreement related to the Strait of Hormuz.

“Welcomed Iran’s Speaker of Parliament H.E. Dr. Ghalibaf and FM Dr. Araghchi in Muscat this evening. Constructive discussions on the recent Iran-U.S. MOU, especially the Strait of Hormuz paragraph. We affirmed commitment to international law and toll-free safe passage,” Albusaidi said in a statement.

The visit comes amid heightened international focus on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping lanes through which a significant share of global oil and gas exports transit.
