HONG KONG – Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 index climbed 1.6 percent to 72,364.82 points after reaching a fresh intraday record of 72,831.73 points. The gains were driven largely by technology shares, which continued to benefit from strong investor interest linked to the global artificial intelligence boom.
South Korea’s Kospi index also advanced, rising 0.4 percent to 9,084.37 points, moving closer to its previous record levels.
In contrast, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 1 percent to 23,690.86 points, while the Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.2 percent to 4,098.01 points.
Australia’s Standard & Poor’s/ASX 200 index fell 0.1 percent to 8,822.80 points.
Elsewhere in the region, Taiwan’s Taix index rose 2.8 percent, and India’s Sensex index rose 0.6 percent.
