MUSCAT – The groundbreaking operation was carried out by a joint team from the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital and the Department of Surgical Oncology at the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre (SQCCCRC).

The advanced supermicrosurgical procedure involves connecting extremely small lymphatic vessels, measuring less than 0.5 millimetres in diameter, to veins to improve lymphatic fluid drainage after lymph node removal.

Medical specialists said the technique helps reduce lymphatic swelling and related symptoms, while improving patients’ quality of life and lowering the risk of long-term complications.

The successful procedure highlights the capabilities of Oman’s healthcare sector and reflects the collaboration between specialised medical teams at the University Medical City.

The achievement also marks a step towards establishing an integrated national programme in this field, supporting access to advanced and specialised medical services within the Sultanate.
