MUSCAT : His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has directed relevant authorities to assess the growing use of social media platforms by children and develop appropriate regulations and mechanisms to govern their use, state media reported on Monday.
The directive was issued during a Cabinet meeting chaired by His Majesty and comes amid increasing concerns globally over the impact of digital platforms on children and young users.
According to the Oman News Agency (ONA), the authorities have been tasked with evaluating the issue from various perspectives and preparing the necessary controls and guidelines to regulate children’s use of social media.

The measures are intended to support parents in guiding their children toward responsible and beneficial use of digital platforms while helping them manage online activity more effectively.
ONA said the review will draw on leading international experiences and best practices in the field as Oman seeks to establish a framework that balances the benefits of digital connectivity with the protection and well-being of children.
