MUSCAT : Schools in Oman are playing a key role in reducing student anxiety during examination periods through structured psychological support programmes and the active involvement of school psychologists, according to a Ministry of Education official.
In a podcast with Al Sawt, the Arabic-language platform of The Arabian Stories, Majed Al Sharyani, a practising school psychologist at the Ministry of Education, said schools implement a range of interventions before and during exams to help students manage stress and improve focus.
He explained that prior to final examinations, school psychologists conduct guidance sessions and awareness lectures aimed at reducing exam-related anxiety and equipping students with coping strategies for academic pressure.
Al Sharyani added that students experiencing higher levels of anxiety are supported through individual and group counselling sessions under the Group Counselling Programme. The initiative includes structured sessions, exercises and activities designed to build self-confidence and develop stress and anxiety management skills, helping students prepare mentally for exams.
During examination periods, psychologists also work within exam centres to ensure a calm and supportive environment, helping students remain focused and reassured. Continuous encouragement and psychological support are provided to strengthen confidence and reduce stress levels, thereby improving their overall performance during examinations.
