MUSCAT – The cases, referred by the Consumer Protection Authority’s department in Barka, involved complaints from consumers who had purchased goods from establishments operating in the automotive, electrical appliances, and furniture sectors.
According to case details, the violations included failure to issue purchase invoices, as well as refusal to repair defects or replace faulty goods during the warranty period, prompting affected consumers to file formal complaints seeking refunds, replacements, and compensation.
After reviewing the evidence, the court found the defendants guilty of failing to refund, replace, or exchange defective goods in accordance with the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law.
The court imposed fines totalling RO 2,495 on the convicted establishments, with the execution of penalties suspended subject to settlement of outstanding obligations. The defendants were also ordered to bear the costs of legal proceedings and fees for technical experts who assessed the disputed goods.
