MUSCAT : The procedure, carried out by the hospital’s breast cancer surgery team, marks a significant advancement in minimally invasive oncological surgery in the Sultanate of Oman. The patient had completed chemotherapy prior to undergoing the operation and has since recovered successfully, according to the hospital.

The surgery was performed using advanced 3D laparoscopic techniques through a single concealed incision, allowing surgeons to remove cancerous breast tissue while preserving the nipple and outer skin. Immediate reconstruction was also completed during the same procedure, in line with modern global standards in breast cancer treatment.

Dr. Ibrahim bin Mubarak Al Waili, senior consultant in cosmetic breast cancer surgery at the Royal Hospital, said the achievement represents a qualitative leap in breast cancer surgery in Oman and reflects ongoing efforts to adopt the latest medical technologies that balance effective treatment with quality-of-life outcomes for patients.

He noted that the 3D endoscopic nipple-preserving technique is among the most advanced approaches in breast surgery worldwide, enabling precise tumour removal while minimizing surgical impact and preserving breast appearance, which improves both psychological and cosmetic outcomes and supports faster recovery.

He said the introduction of this procedure in Oman provides patients with access to advanced surgical options locally, reducing the need to travel abroad for specialised treatment while maintaining high standards of safety and medical quality.
