MUSCAT : A man can be jailed in Oman if he fails to pay alimony to his wife, the Public Prosecution said on Thursday.
In a statement issued, the Public Prosecution said alimony is a legitimate right for the wife and the husband refusing to pay can lead to one year in jail. “Alimony is a legitimate right for the wife from her husband. Refusing to pay alimony specified by a final court decision on time is a crime punishable by imprisonment for one year,” the Public Prosecution said.
According to a report issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), there were 3,662 divorce cases registered in the country in 2018.
