MUSCAT : The rulings stemmed from 26 complaints filed by consumers who had paid the company to arrange tourism programmes that included travel, hotel bookings and transportation services. According to the complaints, customers were unable to benefit from the agreed services due to delays, lack of communication and the eventual closure of the company’s premises.

After investigating the complaints, the competent authorities referred the cases to court, where it was established that the company had failed to fulfil its contractual obligations and provide the services promised to consumers.

The court sentenced the establishment’s representative to six months in prison and imposed total fines of RO 5,200. The company and its representative were also ordered to pay RO 100 in each case, refund all amounts collected from consumers and bear the costs of the public action.

Consumers had submitted copies of contracts and payment receipts as evidence and sought full or partial reimbursement after the company’s closure prevented them from receiving the services they had paid for.
