MUSCAT : According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the governorate’s cumulative number of commercial registrations reached 20,933 by the end of the first quarter.
Jaalan Bani Bu Ali led all wilayats with 208 new registrations, followed by Sur with 114 registrations. Masirah recorded 56 registrations, while Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan and Al Kamil Wal Wafi registered 48 and 25 new businesses respectively.


The ministry’s data also showed that 2,563 commercial licences were issued during the quarter, bringing the cumulative total to 27,174 licences. In addition, 3,205 automatic licences were completed, raising the overall total to 45,938.
Khalid bin Hamad Al Saadi, Director of the Department of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in South Al Sharqiyah, attributed the governorate’s growth to its strategic location, extensive coastline and diverse economic opportunities in sectors including fisheries, the blue economy, agriculture, tourism and mining.
The construction sector emerged as the strongest-performing activity, with completed licences reaching a cumulative 1,432, representing growth of 177.3 percent and signalling robust activity in the governorate’s building and infrastructure sectors.
In the industrial sector, South Al Sharqiyah recorded 454 completed industrial licences during the quarter, bringing the cumulative total to 8,647. Jaalan Bani Bu Ali topped the list with 159 industrial licences, followed by Sur with 151.
Foreign investment activity also continued to expand, with 23 new foreign investment records registered during the first quarter, raising the cumulative total to 1,700.
Meanwhile, the governorate reported a sharp increase in export-related activity, with certificates of origin surging 195.1 percent compared with the same period last year to reach 6,478 certificates by the end of the first quarter of 2026.
