MUSCAT : The initiative is being carried out in cooperation with Dhofar Municipality in Mirbat, alongside the participation of Dhofar Tourism and Investment Company, the Explore Salalah team, climbers, and volunteers, reflecting growing community partnership in supporting environmental initiatives across the governorate.

The campaign focuses on clearing waste and environmental distortions from mountainous and rugged areas below the foot of Jabal Samhan. Due to the difficult terrain, teams used climbing equipment and ropes to safely access remote sites and carry out the cleaning operations effectively.

During the first day of the campaign alone, nearly one ton of plastic and solid waste was removed from the area.

Mohammed Al-Amri, Head of the Jabal Samhan Nature Reserve Administration, said the campaign represents an important field effort to safeguard the reserve’s environmental and natural heritage. He noted that plastic and solid waste pose a direct threat to wildlife by damaging soil and vegetation cover, polluting water sources, and negatively impacting the rare animals inhabiting the reserve.

Al-Amri added that beyond the cleanup operations, the campaign also carries an awareness message aimed at encouraging responsible environmental behavior and educating visitors and residents on the importance of preserving natural sites for future generations. The campaign will continue until May 26.
