MUSCAT : The decision, issued in accordance with the Traffic Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. 28/93 and its Executive Regulations under Resolution No. 23/98, was adopted in line with public interest and will come into effect from the day following its publication in the Official Gazette.
Under the amendments, a new clause titled ‘commemorative’ has been added to Article 2 of the Executive Regulations, formally recognizing commemorative license plates within Oman’s traffic regulatory framework.
The updated regulations also introduce a new article permitting the issuance of commemorative plates under specific conditions determined by the administration. Authorities stated that the use of such plates will be restricted to approved purposes and limited validity periods set by the concerned department.
In addition, the amendments include new specifications relating to the design and dimensions of commemorative plates, which will be issued according to formats approved by the administration.
The Royal Oman Police also approved a fee of RO 70 for issuing commemorative license plates, as part of amendments added to the official schedule of traffic service fees.
The decision further introduced a new traffic violation related to the misuse of commemorative plates, specifically covering the use of such plates beyond the authorised validity period. The violation has been added to the schedule of traffic offences and penalty points under the Executive Regulations.
