MUSCAT : Electricity production surged by 16 percent by the end of March 2026, reaching 10,544.0 gigawatt-hours, up from 9,091.4 gigawatt-hours during the same period in 2025. The increase highlights a notable acceleration in the energy sector, driven by rising consumption and expanding infrastructure.
Net electricity production, which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company, also recorded a significant increase of 15.6 percent, climbing to 10,216.1 gigawatt-hours compared to 8,840.5 gigawatt-hours a year earlier.
In contrast, water production saw a decline of 2.8 percent, reaching 118,412.6 million cubic meters. Muscat Governorate recorded the steepest drop at 5.2 percent, with output falling from 48,787.4 million cubic meters in 2025 to 46,259.0 million cubic meters in 2026.

Production across other governorates also dipped by 2.4 percent, totaling 53,206.1 million cubic meters. However, Dhofar Governorate stood out as an exception, posting a 2.5 percent increase in water production, which rose to 18,947.5 million cubic meters compared to 18,492.1 million cubic meters last year.
