DUQM — The Port of Duqm said it has successfully conducted a Tier 2 marine oil spill response drill within its port basin, underscoring its preparedness to handle environmental emergencies and strengthen operational coordination.

The exercise simulated a realistic oil spill scenario aimed at testing the effectiveness of response systems, containment measures and communication among stakeholders under controlled conditions.

The port said the drill confirmed that both Port of Duqm Company and Oman Tank Terminal Company, along with participating entities, had achieved Tier 2 readiness, demonstrating the ability to respond in a timely and coordinated manner.

The exercise also evaluated the implementation of the port’s Oil Spill Response Plan and Emergency Response Plan, ensuring alignment with national environmental regulations and international maritime safety standards.

Multiple agencies took part in the drill, with the port leading overall coordination while testing inter-agency response times and operational efficiency.

Officials said the drill helped identify areas for improvement and offered lessons to enhance future response strategies and overall preparedness.

Oman Tank Terminal Company supported the exercise by facilitating berth access and enabling safe execution of response activities, working closely with port authorities to ensure smooth coordination.

The port said the initiative reflects its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and sustainability as it strengthens its role in marine emergency response.
