MUSCAT : The federation clarified that Article 29 of the regulations mandates that the 8 percent service charge imposed on services provided by tourist and hotel establishments must be distributed to employees in cash, in accordance with prescribed procedures.
The provision forms part of the executive regulations issued under a decision by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, which outlines the financial framework governing tourism establishments.
Under the regulations, tourist and hotel establishments are required to collect a 4 percent tourism fee on the total price paid by customers, in addition to the 8 percent service charge allocated to workers.
Operators must also establish electronic links with the ministry and relevant entities, provide periodic statistical data, and comply with auditing requirements related to these fees.
