PARIS : The Sultanate of Oman has stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation and enhancing international coordination to ensure the continuity of education during times of crisis, while reaffirming support for the role of UNESCO in protecting education systems and preserving human heritage.
The remarks were delivered during Oman’s participation in the 224th session of the UNESCO Executive Board, held from April 8 to 23.

In her address at the opening plenary session, Her Excellency Amna bint Salem Al Balushi, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Oman to UNESCO, highlighted the growing challenges facing the Arab region due to conflicts and attacks on infrastructure, particularly educational and cultural institutions in Palestine and Lebanon, which have disrupted learning processes.
She called for a more coordinated and effective international response to safeguard the right to education in emergency situations, stressing the need to prioritize dialogue, reduce escalation, and promote peaceful solutions in line with international law.
Her Excellency reiterated that education remains a top national priority in Oman and a key pillar of the Oman Vision 2040 development framework. She also noted Oman’s active contribution to global discussions on the future of education through UNESCO-led initiatives.
The Omani envoy further underscored UNESCO’s pivotal role in protecting cultural heritage and promoting cultural diversity, particularly in conflict-affected regions, welcoming the ‘UNESCO80’ initiative aimed at improving institutional efficiency and governance.
She concluded by reaffirming Oman’s commitment to supporting UNESCO’s mission, stressing that building peace in minds, advancing knowledge, and preserving culture are essential foundations for a more secure and sustainable world.
