MUSCAT : The death toll from flash floods in Oman has risen to five after authorities recovered the body of a previously missing woman in the Wilayat of Barka in South Al Batinah Governorate, officials said on Sunday.
The Search and Rescue Sector confirmed that the body of the missing individual was found following extensive operations, bringing the total number of fatalities linked to the recent heavy rainfall to five.
Earlier, authorities had reported four deaths after two additional bodies were recovered in Barka, where rising waters from overflowing wadis swept away vehicles amid intense rainfall.

Among the victims were two Indian expatriates from Kerala — Yusuf (38) and Shamla (32) — who died after their vehicle was caught in flash floods while travelling with family members during the Eid Al Fitr holidays. The latest recovery confirms that Yusuf’s mother, Ramlath, who had been reported missing, has also died.
According to reports, the group was travelling in a Nissan Patrol carrying nine passengers when it was overtaken by rapidly rising floodwaters while crossing a wadi.
Six people, including four children, managed to escape, while the others were swept away by strong currents.
The incident occurred as Oman faced a powerful low-pressure system that brought torrential rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across several governorates, triggering sudden and dangerous flash floods.
Authorities said wadis overflowed in multiple areas, sweeping away vehicles, disrupting transport and submerging low-lying regions, prompting a series of rescue operations.
