MUSCAT : Oman’s National Committee for Emergency Management has activated the National Emergency Management Centre and associated sectoral and sub-committees across several governorates, as the country braces for heavy rainfall linked to a developing low-pressure system.

The decision covers Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta governorates, where authorities expect varying degrees of impact from the weather system in the coming days.

Officials said the move aims to enhance preparedness levels and ensure rapid coordination among relevant agencies to manage potential impacts, including flash floods and disruptions caused by intense rainfall.

The committee confirmed that readiness levels have been raised, with teams placed on alert to respond to any emergencies arising from the anticipated weather conditions.

Authorities have urged citizens and residents to exercise caution, avoid risk-prone areas, and refrain from crossing wadis during periods of heavy flow. The public has also been advised to follow updates and adhere strictly to instructions issued by official channels.
