MUSCAT – At this moment, the Sun will appear to cross the celestial equator heading northwards.
This astronomical event marks the official start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. During the equinox, day and night are nearly equal in duration worldwide, as the Earth’s axis is neither tilted toward nor away from the Sun.
The March equinox is one of two equinoxes observed annually, the second being the September (autumnal) equinox.
