DUBAI – At least one person was killed in Abu Dhabi after several missiles launched from Iran were intercepted over the United Arab Emirates, the country’s state news agency reported on Saturday.

Authorities said air defence systems had successfully intercepted a number of incoming missiles, but confirmed that one fatality was recorded in the capital. It was not immediately clear whether there were additional injuries or damage.

In a statement, the UAE described the attack as a “flagrant violation of national sovereignty and international law.”

The government added that it “reserves its full right to respond to this escalation,” signalling the possibility of retaliatory measures.

The incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions following Israel’s attack on Iran, which has triggered a series of security alerts and airspace closures across several Gulf states.
