MUSCAT – An anonymous Omani citizen has funded the release of 30 prisoners in Al Dhahirah Governorate, marking the 10th consecutive year he has supported such efforts under the “Fak Kurba” (Relief from Distress) initiative, according to a statement issued on Monday.
The release took place in Ibri on Feb. 23, 2026, and covered inmates in cases that met the conditions of the initiative, which focuses on individuals imprisoned in non-criminal, primarily financial cases.
The donor covered the financial obligations required for their release, in a move that coincides with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan, when charitable activities typically increase across the Sultanate.

The “Fak Kurba” initiative, launched in 2012 by the Omani Lawyers Association, aims to assist insolvent prisoners by settling their outstanding debts in eligible cases.
Since its inception, the programme has facilitated the release of more than 8,198 individuals in non-criminal cases, the association said, operating under the slogan: “We believe every human deserves a second chance.”
