MUSCAT – In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Oman had closely followed the lists of coordinates and maps submitted by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, which Kuwait considers an infringement on its sovereign maritime rights.

Oman reaffirmed its support for Kuwait’s sovereignty over all its maritime zones and water heights, underscoring the importance of respecting established boundaries.

The Sultanate also called on the Republic of Iraq to take into account the historical and fraternal ties binding the two neighbouring countries, adhere to the principles of good neighbourliness and comply with international law, particularly the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982.

The statement further emphasised the need to respect existing understandings, agreements and bilateral memoranda of understanding concluded between Iraq and Kuwait in line with international legal frameworks.
